Training

TAS was established by Meg Brickell and John Marsland who hold qualifications in archaeological methods from the University of Manchester. They have a commitment to passing on their skills to anyone who is interested in the history and archaeology of Tameside. Further support is given through involvement in training digs provided by Manchester University.

Training consists of the methods used to prepare a site for excavation. This entails;
  1. Research Survey work Measuring the site of any proposed trench Digging Trowelling Drawing and final recording prior to the decision as to how best to preserve the remains under investigation.
  2. Maintenance of the 'Site Diary' (an important document for every site.) The site diary will be the basis for interim and final reports.
